Teatro Jovellanos has announced an exciting programme for the first half of 2027, showcasing a variety of performances across different genres aimed at diverse audiences. The line-up includes renowned national artists, international dance and circus acts, as well as new creations linked to the cultural landscape of Asturias.
Highlights from the theatrical line-up
The theatrical offerings will feature works from various generations and styles. José Sacristán will perform in ‘El hijo de la cómica’, while Carlos Hipólito will star in ‘Largo viaje hacia la noche’ by Eugene O’Neill. Other notable productions include ‘La vida extraordinaria’ with Malena Alterio and Carmen Ruiz, ‘Panorama desde el puente’ featuring María Adánez, and ‘Gola’ with Oriol Pla, who received the National Theatre Award in 2026.
Focus on dialogue and contemporary circus
Another key element of the season will be ‘Diálogos’, presented by the National Dramatic Centre. This production is inspired by the works of Federico García Lorca and commemorates the centenary of the Generation of '27, featuring a cast of actors under 30 in 2027, directed by Alfredo Sanzol.
The contemporary circus will also be represented with ‘Fly Me to the Moon’ by Leandre Ribera, an internationally recognised clown who received the National Circus Award in 2026. This act is part of a season that embraces a diversity of theatrical languages.
Dance and music offerings
The Martha Graham Dance Company will be a significant highlight in the dance segment, alongside other choreographic works such as ‘Creaviva’ by Rafaela Carrasco and ‘Una brillante imperfección’ by Vero Cendoya.
The music programme will span various styles, featuring symphonic concerts, classical music, and performances by well-known artists. Scheduled events include concerts by Álex Ubago and flamenco singer Rocío Márquez, as well as the theatrical-musical production ‘Dulcinea’ starring Paloma San Basilio. The regular programming of the Symphony Orchestra of the Principality of Asturias and the Gijón Philharmonic Society will also continue.
Premieres from Asturias
Notably, the programme will highlight four premieres from Asturian companies and artists. Among these is ‘Cyrán. Los carreros de la Tenrura’ by Producciones Nun Tris, performed in Asturian and coinciding with the company’s 30th anniversary. Other premieres include ‘La vida después de ti’ by Mario Viñuela and La habitación con una cama, ‘Toda una vida’ by Laura Iglesia and Carlos Dávila from Higiénico Papel Teatro, and ‘El portal de las amapolas’ by DeCarmela and M202Films.
The full programme for the first half of 2027, comprising a total of 60 titles, will be evaluated by the Board of Directors of Divertia, which is scheduled to meet on 4 November at the Casa de la Palmera. The official presentation of the season will take place on Thursday, 26 November, at Teatro Jovellanos.
