Televisión Canaria is set to broadcast the last two races of the XXXV Championship of Canary Islands Traditional Sailing on Sunday, 1 November, at 11:30 AM. The public broadcaster will connect live from the bay of Puerto del Rosario, providing continuous coverage of the climax of this prestigious regional competition.
The event will feature a total of 31 traditional sailing boats, known as 'barquillos', which have qualified from the island leagues of the eastern Canary Islands. This includes eight boats from Lanzarote, eight from Fuerteventura, nine from Gran Canaria, and four from La Graciosa.
Following the first six heats of the official calendar, which began on the penultimate weekend of October, the championship will determine the winning crew in the waters off Fuerteventura on Sunday. The broadcast will include commentary from journalist José Luis Perdomo, alongside technical insights from Alejandro Barrera and Saúl Hormiga.
Coverage will also feature on-water reporting by Gary Chocho and Eugenia Cantero, who will provide analysis and insights from the sailors aboard inflatable boats alongside the racing fleet.
This year's championship, organised by the Canary Islands Federation of Traditional Sailing alongside the island federations of Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and Gran Canaria, is notable for an increase in participation from female crews and young sailors. Through the broadcast of this indigenous sporting event, Televisión Canaria reaffirms its commitment to promoting, preserving, and valuing the cultural heritage and traditional sports of the Canary Islands.
