Guillem Ginard, the Tourism Councillor of the Consell de Mallorca, along with Pedro Mas, the island's Director of Tourism for Governance and Sustainability, visited the municipality of Ariany to gain insights into local tourism needs, concerns, and proposals from the town hall. The visit aimed to assess initiatives that enhance the municipality and diversify the island's tourism offerings.
This initiative reflects the Consell de Mallorca's commitment to strengthening the role of municipalities in developing a tourism model that acknowledges the richness, diversity, and unique characteristics of each area. The aim is to promote a Mallorca that extends beyond major tourist hubs, highlighting the significance of villages, landscapes, heritage, culture, and local lifestyles as essential components of its identity and appeal.
During the visit, Ginard emphasised the importance of empowering municipalities and continuing efforts towards a more diverse tourism offering that is connected to the territory and showcases authentic Mallorca year-round. He stated, "Our commitment is to promote tourism that discovers the territory, values heritage and landscapes, stimulates the local economy, and helps distribute opportunities across the island. Therefore, local councils are vital partners, and we wish to keep working alongside them."
Ariany has implemented three projects funded by the CBAT, aimed at improving public services and spaces while enriching visitors' experiences through nature, landscapes, and heritage. Notable among these is the Ariany cycling routes project, which enhances the offering related to sports tourism and encourages exploration of the municipality and its surroundings at a leisurely pace.
Additionally, hiking and scenic routes have been paved and signposted, facilitating access to the municipality's itineraries and highlighting its natural and scenic attractions. The third project involves removing architectural barriers, replacing the drinking water network, and beautifying the streets of Atotxa, Forà, and Dameto. The goal is to improve accessibility, renew essential infrastructure, and enhance urban spaces, benefiting both residents and visitors.
These investments exemplify the commitment to actions that positively impact the territory while contributing to a more diversified tourism offering that respects local values and identities. Ginard reiterated, "Investing in municipalities means investing in Mallorca. Initiatives that improve accessibility, public services, and routes for discovering the territory benefit both residents and visitors. We want the island's tourism wealth to be built on the unique characteristics of each village, preserving what makes them special."
Joan Ribot, the Mayor of Ariany, expressed gratitude for the councillor's visit and the Consell de Mallorca's willingness to understand the realities of local municipalities. He highlighted the importance of having resources to promote useful projects for the community, improve services, and showcase local attractions.
This visit reinforces the Consell de Mallorca's commitment to a tourism model that recognises the uniqueness of municipalities, promotes diversification of offerings, and advocates for an authentic Mallorca where heritage, landscapes, culture, and everyday life in villages represent a distinctive value. The meeting is part of the ongoing efforts by the Insular Directorate of Governance of the Consell de Mallorca to maintain continuous dialogue with local councils, identify the needs of each territory, and promote a coordinated tourism policy that considers both development opportunities and the specific characteristics of each municipality.
