The Escuela de Ajedrez Pontevedra-Universidad de Vigo is currently represented in two prestigious chess competitions. Daniel Rivera, the club's technical director and president, is competing in Serbia at the World Senior Chess Championships for players over 65, while fellow team member David Fernández is participating in the XXXV Campeonato de España Individual Absoluto, organised by the Spanish Federation of Sports for the Blind (FEDC).

The FIDE World Senior Chess Championships are taking place in Vrnjačka Banja, Serbia, until 14 November, with over 200 players from 64 countries participating in a Swiss-system tournament consisting of eleven rounds. Rivera, who holds an Elo rating of 2218, began the tournament ranked 44th and has already secured a victory against Austrian player Boris Sauper, followed by a draw against Boris Furman.

Meanwhile, David Fernández is competing in the national tournament in Bailén, Andalusia, which runs until 10 November. Representing the Galician federation, Fernández opened the tournament ranked fourth with a rating of 1958. He started strong with a win against Florentina Alarcón from Madrid, followed by another victory over José Luis Fernández, also from Madrid, on Thursday morning.

The university club emphasises that participation in these high-level competitions is a recognition of their ongoing commitment to training and development in both conventional and adapted chess.
