UVigo launches initiative to connect researchers with European funding opportunities

The 'Hablemos de proyectos' initiative commenced this week at the School of Telecommunications Engineering, designed to inform faculty and researchers about European funding opportunities and encourage their participation in international projects. This initiative, launched by the Office of International Projects (OPI) with support from the Vice-Rectorates of Research and Transfer, Innovation, and Social Impact, aims to establish direct contact with the research community at the University of Vigo (UVigo).

During the opening event, the rector, Carmen García Mateo, and the vice-rector for Transfer, Rafael Comesaña, visited the initiative's stand to express their support. The OPI seeks to understand the interests and ideas of the research community, address queries, and provide guidance on identifying calls for proposals and international collaboration opportunities.

Highlighted European programmes

The initiative focuses on key European programmes such as Erasmus+, Creative Europe, and CERV, whose calls for 2027 will be a central theme of the meetings. Erasmus+ promotes international cooperation in education, training, youth, and sport. Creative Europe supports the cultural and audiovisual sectors, fostering cooperation between countries, cultural diversity, and innovative initiatives in culture and creativity. The CERV programme (Citizenship, Equality, Rights and Values) finances projects aimed at defending fundamental rights, promoting equality, social inclusion, civic participation, and strengthening European democratic values.

“We hope this initiative will be of interest to UVigo's academic staff. We aim to bring the resources and advice of the OPI, particularly in the educational area, closer to the university community and contribute to identifying new collaboration and participation opportunities in European projects,” said Eva Garea, Director of the International Education Projects Area.

Upcoming events across campuses

The visit to the School of Telecommunications Engineering marks the beginning of a series of meetings scheduled throughout November at the campuses in Vigo, Pontevedra, and Ourense. Following this initial session, 'Hablemos de proyectos' will continue on Wednesday, 4 November, at the Faculty of Philology and Translation, and on Thursday, 5 November, at the School of Mining and Energy Engineering. The programme will extend to various faculties and schools across the three campuses, aiming to bring OPI resources and advice to different knowledge areas within the university.
