The Tourism Department of Molina de Segura, in collaboration with the Environment Department, the Institute of Tourism of the Region of Murcia, and the Regional Network of Tourist Offices, is organising a free guided tour aimed at the general public. The tour will take place on Saturday, 7 November, with a bus departure scheduled for 09:30 from the bus stop on Avenida de Madrid, next to the Town Hall. The return to the urban area of Molina de Segura is expected at 14:00.
The first stop will be the wetland of Las Lagunas de Campotéjar – Salar Gordo, a natural space that holds two protective designations affirming its exceptional natural value. In 2011, it was declared a Wetland of International Importance or RAMSAR site, and in 2014, it was included in the Natura 2000 Network as a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA), due to the presence of the threatened white-headed duck and other rare waterfowl, such as the marbled teal and the common pochard.
The visit will feature an interpretive itinerary through Las Lagunas de Campotéjar, where participants will learn about the flora, typical salt marsh vegetation and its adaptations, the fauna, the origins of this natural space, and the importance of wetland conservation. Following this, visitors will be transported by bus to the hamlet of El Rellano, where they will gain deeper insights into the surroundings of Vicente Blanes Ecological Park, a space of significant ecological, landscape, and educational value.
Accompanied by specialised guides, attendees will receive explanations about the native flora and fauna, the geology of the area, and the environmental conservation programmes being developed in the region. They will also visit the Municipal Hostel of El Rellano, ideal for groups, located within the Ecological Park, a privileged environment to enjoy nature in its purest form.
This initiative reaffirms the Tourism Department's commitment to promoting local heritage and educational tourism, fostering respect and appreciation for the natural and cultural resources of Molina de Segura. According to the Tourism Councillor, Pilar Galindo, “this visit is a wonderful opportunity to discover the natural and environmental wealth of Molina de Segura, to closely explore unique spaces such as Las Lagunas de Campotéjar and Vicente Blanes Ecological Park, and to highlight the natural heritage we have in our municipality. We want both residents and visitors to enjoy these sites, learn about their biodiversity, and become aware of the importance of protecting and conserving our environment.”
The activity lasts approximately four and a half hours. Both the duration and the low difficulty of the route make it suitable for all audiences. Comfortable footwear, a hat, and water are recommended. Spaces are limited, so prior registration is essential.
