The XIV edition of the popular jamón veloz race is set to take place on 22 November in Guijuelo, a town in the province of Salamanca known for its high-quality ham. The event is organised by the Guijuelo athletics club in collaboration with the local council.
This morning, the event was announced by Mayor Roberto Martín, along with Sports Councillor Jesús Manuel Hernández, Sports Coordinator Melchor Herráez, and Santiago del Bosque, the president of the athletics club.
Once again, the race will start and finish at the Plaza Mayor, Guijuelo's main square. Similar to last year, the event will include a charity walk with a registration fee of €5, with all proceeds going to AESNI, the Spanish Association of Nephrotic Syndrome in Children.
The children's race will begin at 11:00 AM, featuring various distances around the Plaza Mayor. The adult race, covering a distance of 4,000 metres, will start at 12:00 PM, winding through the streets of central Guijuelo before returning to the Plaza Mayor.
This race is classified as a Green category event within the Provincial Circuit of Popular Races organised by the Salamanca Provincial Council. Registration fees are set at €7 for adults (aged 17 and over) and €2 for children’s races, with all participants receiving a small gift.
Registrations can be made online at atletismosalmantino.org until 19 November at 23:00, and in person at the Municipal Sports Pavilion until 17 November at 20:00. Participants can collect their race numbers on the day of the event from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at the Plaza Mayor.
After the race, all participants will be treated to hot chocolate and a raffle for prizes.
