Girona city council honours local choral movement during fires of Sant Narcís

The Girona city council is set to honour the local choral movement as part of this year's Fires of Sant Narcís, with a series of open performances scheduled for 28, 29, and 30 October. This initiative aims to acknowledge the contributions of Girona's choirs to the city's cultural and community life, providing a platform for these groups to showcase their activities and share choral music with the public.

The programme features six performances across three days in the Plaza de Santa Susanna. The first performance will take place on Wednesday, 28 October, at 19:00, featuring Claudefaula. On Thursday, 29 October, two performances are scheduled: the ADAC choir at 12:30 and Musicandis at 19:00. The series will conclude on Friday, 30 October, with three additional performances: One Generation Music at 18:30, Gospelians at 19:45, and Cor Gospel Girona at 20:55.

Additionally, two choirs will perform in other locations on 29 October, coinciding with the Sant Narcís celebrations. The Cor Albéniz from the Girona Conservatory will sing at 17:30 in the Girona Cathedral as part of the traditional Sant Narcís Concert, while the Heaven on Earth Gospel Choir will perform at 18:30 in the activity dome of the Palau Firal during the Fira de Mostres.

The opening speech, delivered by four historic choirs, expands upon the recognition that began during the Fires' opening event, which featured the Cor Maragall, the Capella Polifònica de Girona, the Cor Filharmonia, and the Coral del GEiEG. Approximately 180 singers performed four pieces from the stage in the Plaza del Vi, highlighting choral singing as an integral part of the city's identity. With this programme, the city council aims to extend recognition beyond the four choirs featured in the opening speech, allowing other local choirs to participate in the Fiesta Mayor.
