24th street handball tournament to take place in Torrelavega

The sports councillor of Torrelavega, Nacho González, has unveiled the 24th edition of the street handball tournament, which will be held on Sunday, 25 October, starting at 09:00, inside the National Livestock Market. The event will see the participation of more than 250 children from the prebenjamín, benjamín, and alevín categories.

Organised by Balonmano Torrelavega in collaboration with the local council, the tournament marks the beginning of activities for the youngest members of the Cantera Naranja and will feature teams from the host club, HBC 74 of Camargo, Balonmano Puente Viesgo, and Balonmano Corrales.

González expressed the council's enthusiasm for supporting such an important and well-attended event, thanking the club and the school for their efforts. He encouraged the children to enjoy their sport during this day of camaraderie.

Jorge Pérez, a director of Balonmano Torrelavega, highlighted the festive nature of the gathering, which will bring together clubs from the region and affiliated entities, emphasising the importance of young players feeling valued within the club.

The organisers will provide snacks throughout the morning and invite participants to attend the match between Bathco BM Torrelavega and Cajasol Sevilla BM Proin at 18:00 in the Vicente Trueba pavilion, part of the seventh round of the NEXUS ENERGÍA ASOBAL League. Pérez noted that this invitation would allow the younger players to enjoy a full day and see themselves reflected on the Vicente Trueba court.

Dani Hernández, the coordinator of the handball school, praised the recruitment efforts, which currently involve around 100 students up to the alevín category. He explained that the start of activities would encourage new sign-ups and expressed optimism that they would reach or exceed last year's figure of 140 students within a month.
