The city of A Coruña will host the autumn edition of AgoraSón on Friday, 23 October, featuring performances by A Banda da Loba, singer and pandeireteira Icía Varela, and Japanese musician Haruna Chatani. The concert is set to begin at 21:00 at the Ágora Sociocultural Centre.
This event coincides with the celebration of Library Day, and as usual, invitations for the concert will be distributed through municipal libraries when patrons borrow reading or audiovisual materials in Galician. Should there be any remaining tickets, they will be available at the Ágora library on the afternoon of the event until the concert starts.
The Mayor of A Coruña, Inés Rey, emphasised the significance of this initiative, stating, "AgoraSón is a magnificent example of how cultural programming can also promote our language and encourage reading. It strengthens the connection between the community and Galician through music, transforming municipal libraries into even more dynamic and participatory spaces."
This edition will showcase A Banda da Loba, one of the most prominent groups in contemporary Galician music, consisting of five women who blend pop, folk, blues, rock, and traditional Galician music. They will present their latest work, 'Lovismo', an artistic project exploring various expressions of love and personal transformation.
The second part of the concert will feature Icía Varela and Haruna Chatani, two artists who have created a unique proposal based on the dialogue between Galician and Japanese musical traditions. By combining the Galician pandeireta and the Japanese koto, they offer a sound experience that bridges seemingly distant cultures and sensitivities.
According to the mayor, "A Coruña has a rich cultural and musical heritage, and programmes like AgoraSón bring innovative and high-quality proposals to the public while reinforcing the social use of Galician. This successful formula has demonstrated its ability to attract interest among the community over the years."
AgoraSón takes place twice a year, coinciding with Galician Literature Day and Library Day. Throughout its history, the event has featured artists such as Tanxugueiras, Mercedes Peón, Ruxe Ruxe, Luar na Lubre, and Boyanka Kostova.
