A Coruña council appoints EMVSA to manage San Amaro municipal swimming pool

The A Coruña council has officially entrusted the management of the San Amaro municipal swimming pool to EMVSA, a municipal company, following an agreement with the Club do Mar, which previously managed the facility. This decision aims to ensure the continuity of services and activities at the pool, which is vital for many local residents.

José Manuel Lage, the first deputy mayor and municipal spokesperson, stated, "We believe this is the best solution to ensure that this process has positive effects for users and does not pose a problem for the club. Ultimately, we are seeking a solution to keep all services, courses, and activities active and to maintain facilities that are essential for many neighbours." The swimming pool hosts various courses and activities for the Municipal Sports Schools, highlighting the importance of keeping these services operational.

The investment planned for the management period is estimated at €86,000 for 2026, €324,000 for 2027, and €198,000 for 2028. Lage added, "This is not just about maintaining the pool, but also about improving the service it provides."

Second phase of Ciudad Deportiva de la Torre changing rooms

The council has also awarded the contract for the second phase of the renovation of the changing rooms at the Ciudad Deportiva de la Torre, with an investment of over €654,000. This phase will complement the ongoing first phase, which has already seen an investment exceeding €850,000.

The project will add two new changing rooms for teams and reorganise existing spaces. Lage commented, "This way, we respond to the demands for improvements made by users. This general reconfiguration will include three distribution lines: one for toilets and sinks, another for the changing rooms, which will see an increase in capacity, and a third for the shower area. Following these interventions, there will also be a renewal of finishes, using highly durable materials to minimise future maintenance needs."

Concierge services in sports buildings

In a related development, the council has approved a modification to the contract for concierge services in municipal sports buildings, increasing the total service hours to 2,030.25. Lage noted, "With this measure, we aim to ensure the proper development of all activities throughout the year, enhancing service provisions with extended operating hours."

The opening hours for concierge services will be advanced by 15 minutes at various sports centres, including Sagrada Familia and San Francisco Javier, among others. Additionally, a new shift will be introduced at the Municipal Palace of Riazor from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm, Monday to Friday. Following this modification, the total guaranteed annual hours will rise to 100,147.25, with an annual investment of €5,358,070.13, which is €81,386 more than initially planned.

Automobile Barracks agreement liquidation

The council has also approved a proposal to liquidate the agreement signed between the council and the Ministry of Defence regarding the "Acuartelamiento de la Grela" or Automobile Barracks. This proposal establishes the termination of the agreement by mutual consent and outlines the rules for its liquidation, aiming to clarify the obligations and commitments of all parties involved.

Lage stated, "This will expedite the recently announced land reallocation project. We are making progress on a fundamental project for the provision of new public facilities in an area crucial for access to and from the city." The site, adjacent to the Baños de Arteijo road, has been unused for many years. The council intends to urbanise it, recognising its potential for housing facilities that could facilitate urban transport logistics in light of a new contract to be tendered soon. The reallocation project aims to utilise over half of the site, nearly 22,000 square metres of the total area, with a buildable area of around 38,000 square metres, allowing for not only garage space but also other necessary public services.
