Alicante announces autumn reforestation event at Monte Orgegia on 7 November

Alicante will host its traditional autumn reforestation event at Monte Orgegia on Saturday, 7 November. Organised by the Enamorados de Alicante Association through the ‘Alicante Renace’ programme, in collaboration with the Parks and Gardens Department, the initiative aims to plant more than a thousand Mediterranean trees and shrubs, as well as distribute seeds in this peri-urban forest area.

Rafael Alemañ, the councillor for Parks and Gardens, stated, “The City Council and Alicante Renace offer residents the chance to plant a tree and contribute to the recovery of an environmentally significant wooded area like Monte Orgegia, an activity we carry out every year.”

The primary goal of this event is not only to increase the vegetation of Monte Orgegia but also to promote environmental awareness, impart knowledge about ecosystem conservation, and encourage younger generations to respect and care for nature.

Throughout the morning, free workshops focused on education, awareness, and environmental conservation will take place, providing participatory opportunities for both children and adults to learn about the biodiversity, fauna, and flora of the region.

Daniel Aguilar, director of the Alicante Renace programme, commented, “Our aim is not just for a family to come one morning to plant a tree and leave. We want children to discover the importance of insects, birds, trees, and everything that makes life possible in our mountains. We want them to learn, enjoy, and, above all, feel that these spaces are theirs to protect. Because the true success of Alicante Renace lies not only in the trees we plant but in the people we manage to raise awareness among to care for them throughout their lives.”

Participation in this reforestation day is free, but registration is mandatory through the website www.alicanterenace.es. Participants will receive products provided by Mercalicante, Aguas de Alicante, and Coca-Cola during the planned activities. The organisation will also supply trees and shrubs, necessary tools, assistance during planting, and insurance for the event at no cost.

The Enamorados de Alicante Association expressed gratitude for the involvement of these entities and the support of the City Council of Alicante, highlighting the importance of collaboration between public administrations, businesses, and citizens to promote projects that generate environmental and social benefits in the area, as part of an ongoing effort to restore Alicante's natural spaces.
