Alicante launches 1,500 annual hours of pre-employment workshops for vulnerable individuals

The City Council of Alicante has initiated a series of pre-employment training workshops designed for individuals facing social exclusion. These workshops will encompass five programmes, providing over 1,500 hours of training each year.

The service will be delivered by Institut de Formació Permanent S. L., under the auspices of the Social Welfare Department, with a budget of €161,200 allocated for two years, with the possibility of extending the contract for an additional two years.

The aim of the contract is to implement workshops focused on pre-employment training for those in situations of or at risk of social exclusion. The specialisations offered include:

  • Auxiliary hairdressing and aesthetics
  • Maintenance of light vehicles and bicycles
  • Carpentry and various uses of wood
  • Men's hairdressing and barbering
  • Painting of facades and interiors
“This service is a fundamental resource to facilitate access to training and employment for individuals in social exclusion with objective difficulties for labour insertion, particularly targeting young people aged between 16 and 35,”

explained Begoña León, the Councillor for Social Welfare.

Municipal Social Services, specifically the Labour Inclusion Pathway Support Service, has identified two segments of the population with high vulnerability to unemployment:

  1. Individuals with work experience who have been long-term unemployed and are accessing municipal social services for the first time.
  2. Individuals lacking work experience or who have only worked in irregular or excluded employment.

The workshops will focus on training and developing various professional skills, reinforcing and maintaining social and labour habits, as well as acquiring and consolidating basic academic knowledge.

The contract for this service stipulates the delivery of one pre-employment workshop annually in each specialisation, with a minimum duration of 300 teaching hours. The awarded company has also proposed enhancements, including an additional 20 hours per specialisation at no extra cost, the production of a promotional video, and two photo news articles for each specialisation, along with non-labour professional practices provided by sector companies.
