Alicante has introduced a new promotional campaign called 'El Rasca del Carroset', aimed at encouraging shopping in its four municipal markets. Launched on 6 November 2026 at the Mercado de Babel, the initiative will distribute 22,000 scratch cards to customers who make purchases at these markets.
Lidia López, the city councillor for markets, emphasised that the campaign combines tradition and innovation while promoting sustainable consumption through the use of new shopping carts. The initiative, developed by the Alicante City Council in collaboration with the Municipal Markets Traders Association, aims to revitalise local commerce and foster customer loyalty.
As part of the campaign, approximately 600 shopping carts will be given away to customers who shop at the markets. When a customer makes a purchase at one of the associated establishments, they will receive a scratch card. If they win, they can claim one of the shopping carts while supplies last.
Aida Roque, president of the Municipal Markets Association, noted that the campaign is designed to stimulate local trade and create an attractive promotional activity that benefits both traders and customers. The carts are intended to encourage a return to traditional shopping habits, adapted to modern tastes.
López stated, “With this new campaign, we reinforce the identity of the markets as daily shopping spaces that offer proximity, tradition, and a commitment to the environment. We encourage people to visit and purchase fresh, quality products from local vendors.”
'El Rasca del Carroset' is more than just a commercial promotion; it aims to enhance the image of the markets as vibrant community spaces where shoppers engage with traders and enjoy their daily shopping experience. This initiative also seeks to promote small, responsible consumption habits by encouraging the use of reusable shopping carts instead of plastic bags.
