Aula de extensión universitaria in Lleida welcomes 1,784 new students

A total of 1,784 individuals are set to commence activities at the Aula de Extensión Universitaria de Lleida this October, as part of the Universitat de Lleida (UdL). The course, which will run until May, was inaugurated on 30 September 2026 at the Enric Granados Municipal Auditorium by Montserrat Gené, the new president of the Aula, alongside outgoing president Paco Rué, UdL's Vice-Rector for Culture Núria Casado, and Lleida's mayor Fèlix Larrosa.

During the inauguration, Gené highlighted several new initiatives for this academic year, including the implementation of mechanisms to assess student satisfaction with the lectures and activities offered. Additionally, a new honorary member status will be introduced for individuals over 90 years old, and a lottery system will be established for the admission of new members.

Gené expressed her gratitude towards Paco Rué for his thirteen years of leadership, describing him as a figure of "generosity, availability, and commitment". She reaffirmed her commitment to making the Aula a centre of culture, learning, and community engagement.

Núria Casado praised the Aula's dynamism and dedication to fostering a love for learning and appreciation for the UdL. The mayor of Lleida emphasised the city's long-standing tradition as a university town, dating back to 1300, and noted that all members of the Aula contribute to this legacy.

The Universitat de Lleida currently oversees a total of 36 extension classrooms, with the addition of the Lleida Regional Centre in Barcelona this year to the existing 35 in the Lleida region.
