The documentary feature 'Benigno', produced by the Canary Islands-based Tinglado Film and supported by Televisión Canaria, has made history at the 71st edition of the International Film Week of Valladolid (Seminci) by winning two prestigious awards: the Green Spike and the Special Jury Mention in the Alquimias section.
Directed by David Baute, 'Benigno' premiered nationally at Seminci and has been recognised as one of the most heartfelt contributions to contemporary cinema. The dual awards highlight the film's exploration of identity and resilience in the face of time's passage.
The jury for the Alquimias section, which aims to showcase bold works that challenge the conventional boundaries of auteur cinema, awarded the Special Mention to 'Benigno' for its profound human sensitivity in portraying the life and daily experiences of its protagonist. The film has been described as an eloquent and measured reflection on memory, family roots, and the loss of traditional ways of life.
Additionally, the film's intrinsic commitment to its territory and environmental advocacy earned it the Green Spike, an accolade given to works that best convey the symbiotic relationship between humans and nature.
'Benigno' is set to continue its journey at the Independent Film Festival in Barcelona, where it has been selected as one of five national feature films to compete. The film's artistic direction by Silvia Navarro, editing by Raul Barrera, soundtrack by Dori Diaz, and sound design by Nahuel Palenque will be showcased in cinemas across Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, La Coruña, and Seville in the coming months.
