Cáceres to celebrate 40 years as a UNESCO World Heritage site with special concert

The city of Cáceres is set to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its declaration as a UNESCO World Heritage site with a special concert on 15 November at the Plaza de Toros. This extraordinary event will showcase three renowned musical formations: the Banda de Cornetas y Tambores del Santísimo Cristo del Humilladero, the Banda del Espíritu Santo, and the Banda del Santísimo Cristo de las Tres Caídas from Triana, Seville.

The concert is a collaborative effort between the local council and the Banda del Humilladero, aiming to blend religious music, heritage, and culture in a single event. It holds particular significance as it coincides with both the 40th anniversary of Cáceres' UNESCO designation and the 40-year history of the Banda del Humilladero.

Mayor Rafa Mateos presented the event alongside Culture Councillor Jorge Suárez, Antonio Pablo Rubio, director of the Banda de Cornetas y Tambores del Santísimo Cristo del Humilladero, and other members of the musical group. Mateos emphasised that the aim of the commemorative programming for the anniversary has been to include ambitious proposals that engage the city and honour this milestone.

He noted that the recent Festival Monumental Cáceres held in September was a successful example of this initiative and expressed confidence that the upcoming concert will also be a memorable occasion. The mayor highlighted that 'Cáceres cannot be understood without its Holy Week, declared an International Tourist Interest Festival, not only for its processional parades but also for everything it represents and mobilises throughout the city.'

The Seville-based Banda del Santísimo Cristo de las Tres Caídas, a leading name in religious music, will participate with over 150 musicians. Established in 1980 by young members of the Esperanza de Triana brotherhood, the band has evolved by incorporating new musical elements, solidifying its reputation as one of the most recognised bands in its genre.

Mayor Mateos expressed gratitude for the efforts and commitment of the Banda del Humilladero in making this collaboration with the council possible, allowing the city to celebrate its anniversary through a proposal that unites tradition, music, and heritage.
