Castilla-La Mancha libraries host over twenty cultural activities for library day

Public libraries in Castilla-La Mancha are set to celebrate Library Day on 24 October with a diverse programme of over twenty cultural activities throughout the month. This initiative spans across the provinces of Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Guadalajara, and Toledo.

The planned activities aim to promote reading habits, engage audiences of all ages, and highlight the role of libraries as spaces for learning, community engagement, and cultural exchange. Events include poetry recitals, bibliographic exhibitions, book presentations, author meet-and-greets, lectures, creative workshops, puppet shows, and storytelling sessions.

Notable activities include a tribute to the Generation of '27 and children's workshops in Albacete; exhibitions dedicated to Federico García Lorca and Gabriel García Maroto, along with oral storytelling and children's theatre in Ciudad Real; and literary gatherings, events linked to the Day of Women Writers, and workshops focusing on female writers from the region in Cuenca.

Guadalajara has organised discussions on journalism, workshops to connect citizens with library work, and a tribute to the Sierra Norte region. Meanwhile, the Castilla-La Mancha Library in Toledo will feature an exhibition on the evolution of tourism, literary presentations, family activities, and a meeting with journalist and author Teresa Aranguren.

Carmen Teresa Olmedo, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports, emphasised that the region is home to 463 public libraries serving 98% of the population, with over 907,423 users and 3.8 million visits recorded in 2025. She also noted that Castilla-La Mancha ranks as the second autonomous community in Spain for the number of libraries per 100,000 inhabitants.
