Conservatorio de música de los Pirineos welcomes over 100 students with inaugural lecture

The Conservatorio de Música de los Pirineos is set to embark on one of its most memorable academic years yet, welcoming over 100 students for the 2026-2027 course. On 28 October at 19:30, the Sala de la Inmaculada in La Seu d'Urgell will serve as the venue for a cultural event featuring the inaugural lecture titled "El paisaje sonoro de la Seu medieval" (The soundscape of medieval La Seu), presented by the esteemed historian, musician, and researcher Laura de Castellet.

This event promises to be a unique sensory and educational experience, as the lecture will not merely be a theoretical discussion but a true masterclass. Laura de Castellet will guide attendees on a journey through time, revealing how the streets of La Seu resonated centuries ago. A Doctor of Medieval History from the University of Barcelona, de Castellet received the Extraordinary Doctorate Award in 2024 and is a pioneer in sound archaeology.

Through the artisanal reconstruction of ancient instruments, she uncovers the memories and emotions embedded in historical spaces. Her research aligns with her role at the Institute for Research in Medieval Cultures (IRCVM) and her celebrated performance of the Canto de la Sibila at the Cathedral of Santa Maria de Urgell since 2011.

The appeal of this inaugural lecture is further enhanced by a collective celebration of the region's cultural heritage. This academic year marks a historic milestone for the educational project encompassing Berga, Puigcerdà, and La Seu d'Urgell, as it surpasses the milestone of 100 enrolled students for the first time. This record enrolment highlights the importance and necessity of a centre that brings professional music studies to the Pyrenean regions, reinforcing local talent and commitment to regional culture.

The event, which will blend academic rigor with live musical performances, is free of charge and open to families, students, history enthusiasts, and the general public.
