Contemporánea Condeduque, part of Madrid's Area of Culture, Tourism and Sport, is set to premiere ‘Unarmoured’, a dance piece by Canadian choreographer Clara Furey. The performances are scheduled for 28 and 29 October.
Furey, known for her existential dance experiments, brings to the stage the vastness of an inner sea. In ‘Unarmoured’, she reconciles previously separated elements, creating a performance that emerges from a fluid and carnal chaos, with waves that suggest infinity as a transformative emotion.
The dancers in ‘Unarmoured’ appear as haunting sculptures, engaging in an artistic exploration that exudes erotic power with a soft-core approach. Their bodies resonate with the rhythmic waves of light and sound, accompanied by an immersive sound composition created by musician Twin Rising.
About Clara Furey
Clara Furey is a choreographer and performer based in Montreal, whose work focuses on exploring the codes transmitted within and between various artistic forms. Her aim is to awaken the sensory perceptions of both the audience and performers, providing emotional immediacy and direct access.
After completing her musical training at the Conservatoire de Paris, Furey trained as a dancer at the École de danse contemporaine de Montreal. She has collaborated with choreographers such as George Stamos, Damien Jalet, and Benoît Lachambre. In 2017, she choreographed her first collective work, ‘Cosmic Love’, and has since presented her solo piece ‘When Even The’ 90 times as part of an exhibition at the MAC in tribute to Leonard Cohen.
In 2019, she created ‘Rather a Ditch’, a solo piece performed by Céline Bonnier. Furey concluded her exploration of tension and immobility with ‘Dog Rising’ in 2021, and with her latest creation, ‘Unarmoured’ (2024), she asserts the right to eroticism on her own terms, crafting a polyphonic architecture of pleasure.
Her works have been showcased at numerous festivals, including the Venice Biennale, the Festival TransAmériques in Montreal, ImPulsTanz in Vienna, Performance Mix in New York, the Fierce Festival in Birmingham, and B-Motion in Bassano del Grappa, among others. Furey has toured across various countries including Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Azerbaijan, and Bulgaria. In 2025, she received the Prix de la Danse de Montreal in the international dissemination category, awarded by CINARS, in recognition of the scale, quality, and impact of her tours. Alongside her international performances, she regularly conducts workshops.
