'The shepherd who spoke to the stars' will be the latest offering in the twelfth edition of the 'Women who tell' cycle, taking place on Saturday, 24 October, at 20:00 in La Teatrería de Ábrego in Oruña de Piélagos. The professional theatre company Popy Vegas Teatro, founded in Salamanca in 2019, will stage the journey of Gerardo, a shepherd from western Castile, who shares the life he has lived: its beauty, its hardships, and its small mysteries.
Through his memories, the performance explores themes of emigration, survival, education, work, and love, creating a portrait of a seemingly simple existence that ultimately reveals itself to be extraordinary. Gerardo looks to the sky to discover that events, people, and affections are connected by invisible threads, much like the stars.
Tickets are priced at a flat rate of €12 and can be reserved or purchased via WhatsApp at 609 450 267, or at the box office located at Barrio Argés 2, Oruña de Piélagos, which will open half an hour before each performance.
Six companies from six countries across Europe, America, and Asia (Spain, Italy, Ukraine, Albania, Mexico, and Japan) will gather in Oruña de Piélagos for this new edition, which is marked by a diversity of theatrical languages and a commitment to women's stories. The programming of the twelfth edition of 'Women who tell' focuses on some of the realities that continue to affect women's lives: social inequalities based on gender, gender-based violence, the rights of migrant women, the recovery of the memories of those who were silenced and forgotten during the dictatorship, and the imposition of masculinising roles on firstborn women in certain patriarchal societies.
