The 'Noviembre con Música 2026' programme is set to return this year, offering a rich array of cultural activities that encompass music, tradition, theatre, documentary film, and visual arts. As is customary, local entities will play a significant role in this cultural cycle.
The programme will feature traditional concerts by local choral groups and a particularly special anniversary: the 50th anniversary of the Asociación Cultural Lumieira. Throughout November, attendees can explore various musical styles, including choral, traditional, and classical music.
The initiative continues from the previous year's 'Vivan las de mi lugar' event, which took place in May 2025. This year, the programme includes three documentary film screenings, a school theatre performance, a magosto (a traditional chestnut festival), and a contemporary art exhibition, all of which are free to attend and will be held at the Pazo da Cultura.
Highlights of the programme
On 14 November, the II Jornadas 'Vivan las de mi lugar' will take place, focusing on promoting and disseminating the traditional, musical, and oral heritage of Carballo and Bergantiños. This edition, titled 'Vestir la memoria', will explore traditional Galician clothing, its history, uses, and cultural significance. Activities will include talks, workshops, a round table discussion, a family show titled 'Cóntoche un traxe' by Montse Rivera, and a traditional clothing parade.
The day before, on 13 November at 21:00, the Pazo da Cultura will host 'Cantares Atlánticos', a performance combining chamber recital and video art, featuring soprano Soledad Vidal and pianist Aurelio Viribay. Sponsored by the Department of Equality in recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November, this concert pays tribute to the struggle, resilience, and dignity of Galician women throughout history.
Soledad Vidal and Aurelio Viribay have extensive experience in performing songs in the Galician language, presenting a repertoire that spans from medieval cantigas to contemporary compositions inspired by the poetic and musical potential of the language. The concert will also include audiovisual elements that enhance the musical experience.
Choral celebrations and film screenings
This year's 'Noviembre con Música' will also see participation from various choral groups in Carballo, who will use the programme to celebrate significant dates and share the stage with other ensembles. On 6 November at 21:00, the Asociación Cultural Lumieira will commemorate its 50th anniversary with a concert by Ailá, which will also include a tribute to Xosé Manuel Eirís, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of his passing. Ailá, formed in Santiago de Compostela, blends Galician oral tradition with contemporary sound and has received the Martín Códax Music Award for Traditional Music.
On 7 November at 20:00, the auditorium will host the 41st anniversary celebration of the Coro Aires de Bergantiños, accompanied by the Rondalla de Cedeira and the Coro Aimil from Xinzo de Limia. This concert is organised by the choir with support from the Provincial Council of La Coruña and the Concello de Carballo.
The choral music will continue on 28 November at 20:00 with the 53rd Santa Cecilia Festival, organised by the Coral de Bergantiños, featuring performances from the Coral Alecrín of Brión de Ferrol, the Coral Casa do Mar of La Coruña, and the Coral de Bergantiños.
In line with Carballo's cultural programming, documentary film will also feature prominently in 'Noviembre con Música'. Each Thursday in November will showcase documentaries that explore artistic creation, collective memory, and recent history at the Pazo da Cultura. The first screening on 12 November at 20:00 will be 'Mary Quintero. Más de 90 años de creatividad', a 50-minute documentary directed by María Ojea González, highlighting the life of photographer Mary Quintero.
On 19 November at 20:00, 'Crónicas de un no!' will be screened, a 70-minute documentary by Fernando Rodríguez Gómez, known as Peñaño, which recounts the history of insubordination and conscientious objection in Galicia during the 1990s. The final screening on 26 November at 20:00 will be 'L’Archéologue', a 30-minute short documentary directed by Antón Taboada, part of the 'Cru: memoria coruñesa sobre el Mar Exeo' project.
Additional activities and exhibitions
'Noviembre con Música' will also feature additional parallel activities. From 18 November to 8 December, the Pazo da Cultura will host the exhibition of the XIX Certamen de Arte Isaac Díaz Pardo, showcasing selected works aimed at supporting artistic creation and highlighting contemporary visual production. The winning piece of this edition is 'Intervalo 2024' by Ana Isabel Gesto Beiroa.
The theatre programme includes a school performance of 'Sophie no es mi nombre de guerra' by Redrum Teatro on 17 November at 10:30, addressing issues related to gender-based violence through the story of a migrant from Yaoundé, Cameroon, to A Coruña.
Lastly, the Asociación Cultural Ría de Lema will organise a Magosto on 7 November at 18:00, featuring renowned Galician actor and comedian Avelino González in the show 'Cuentos que fueron chistes', with the support of the Concello de Carballo.
