Cuéntalo de Cine has launched its latest initiative with the opening of the exhibition 'from design to screen', which will be available for public viewing until 29 November at the Exhibition Hall of Logroño City Hall. This exhibition features a selection of work by graphic designer Pablo Buratti, a leading storyboard artist in Spanish cinema, highlighting two essential disciplines in film creation: storyboard and concept art.

The exhibition was inaugurated this morning by Miguel Sáinz, the City Promotion Councillor, and Rosa Fernández, the Culture Councillor, alongside Buratti, who is responsible for the official image of the festival. Sáinz remarked on the privilege of having a professional of Buratti's calibre in Logroño, noting his collaboration with some of Spain's most significant filmmakers. He emphasised that the exhibition offers a unique insight into the creative process of cinema through the expertise of one of its great specialists, revealing how stories begin to take shape before reaching the screen.

Buratti explained that storyboarding and concept design serve as the initial contact point for filmmakers, allowing them to envision and construct the films they imagine. For technical teams, these tools are crucial for coordinating and managing the requirements of filming and post-production, anticipating decisions, and facilitating communication across all departments involved in production. He described the storyboard and concept artist's role as a bridge between visual and narrative ideas and their physical realisation, stating, 'It is the bridge between the dream of the script and the physical reality of filming.'

Having contributed to over 70 projects with renowned directors such as Pedro Almodóvar, Álex de la Iglesia, J. A. Bayona, Julio Medem, and Daniel Calparsoro, Buratti's work visually translates ideas and scripts into a sequence of images that help anticipate scene construction prior to filming. Alongside his professional activities, Buratti also engages in education and outreach at various educational institutions. His work has been featured in specialised publications and art magazines, including the script editions of Pedro Almodóvar published by Reservoir Books and the magazine Gràffica. His pieces have been exhibited in international institutions such as Fondazione Prada in Milan and Shanghai, the Deutsches Filminstitut Filmmuseum in Frankfurt, and the Filmoteca Española.

In 2021, Buratti published 'Storyboarding Almodóvar' (Dolmen Editorial), a book that compiles his work with the director over more than a decade. Following the exhibition's inauguration, Buratti will conduct a creative workshop this weekend at the CCR titled 'Storyboards and audiovisual language: from literary script to storyboard'. On Saturday 24 and Sunday 25, from 10:00 to 14:00, Buratti will work with participants to analyse the graphic artist's role in the creation and production of fictional audiovisual works. Through the fundamentals of cinematic storytelling and camera design, attendees will learn how to transform script words into images that can tell a story, using the storyboard as a tool for visual expression and planning.

The exhibition 'from design to screen' will be open until 29 November, Tuesday to Friday from 17:30 to 20:30; Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 12:00 to 14:00 and 17:30 to 20:30. Additionally, guided tours will be available on Saturdays at 18:00, and outside opening hours by request at salaexposiciones@logrono.es. This evening at 19:00, Buratti will lead a guided visit to explain the works displayed in the exhibition.
