The Xunta de Galicia has allocated €30,000 for the renovation of the Pontellas walkway in Cerdido, aimed at enhancing access to the nearby O Castro recreational area. The project was supervised by Martina Aneiros, the Xunta's delegate in Ferrol, alongside Cerdido's mayor, Alberto Rey.
The renovation involved the refurbishment of 160 metres of wooden walkway and the installation of a non-slip mesh made from recyclable polyethylene. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve tourist infrastructure in municipalities with populations of up to 10,000 residents.
The funding is part of a €2 million budget for this year, which supports local councils in enhancing tourist access points. The grants aim to promote the recovery, accessibility, and signage of tourist resources, thereby consolidating the rural tourism offer through the appreciation of historical, cultural, and natural heritage.
Eligible projects may include landscape recovery and treatment, ornamental lighting, the creation of scenic viewpoints, walking paths, and other tourist attractions. Additionally, the funding supports improvements to parking facilities for visitors and the enhancement of properties declared of cultural interest.
