The Castilla-La Mancha government has announced a funding initiative of €250,000 to support 137 sports events deemed of special interest. This announcement was made by Carlos Yuste, the Director General of Youth and Sports, during the presentation of the inaugural Imperial Marathon of Toledo.
Yuste indicated that the final resolution regarding these grants will be published next week. This funding is part of the ongoing support provided by the regional government for the organisation of sports events, which are seen as vital for promoting physical activity and attracting visitors.
Highlighting the importance of these annual grants, Yuste noted that they not only encourage sports activities but also stimulate economic growth in local hotels, restaurants, and shops. He specifically mentioned the upcoming Imperial Marathon, scheduled for 15 November, which has already attracted nearly 3,000 participants from 23 different nationalities. Yuste expressed optimism about the event's potential to become a major fixture in the national popular athletics calendar.
The marathon will feature a 42-kilometre route that showcases some of Toledo's key heritage sites, including the Alcázar, the Cathedral, the Tagus River, and its historic bridges. Yuste also pointed to Toledo's capability to host large sporting events, citing the recent Night Race that drew approximately 6,700 participants. He expressed hope that the Imperial Marathon will establish itself as a prominent event on the national sports calendar.
