The Culture and Linguistic Policy Department of Reus, in collaboration with the Association of Friends of the Prades Mountains, will host a family walk on Sunday, 15 November. The event will commence at 10 am from Mas Iglesias and will conclude at the same location after a 6-kilometre route that highlights various significant points in the area.
This free activity is part of the celebrations for the 58th Renewal of the Flame of the Catalan Language. The choice of Ramon Amigó Square in Mas Iglesias as the meeting point is significant, as the Reus philologist was instrumental in bringing this event to the city, which combines hiking with the promotion of the Catalan language.
The route reflects Reus's agricultural past, featuring traditional farmhouses and remnants of Mediterranean dry farming, including carob, almond, and olive trees. It will also pass through irrigated areas where vegetables were grown to supply local produce, with visible remains of the structures that once transported water to the fields.
Urbanised areas in southern Reus will also be included in the walk, with explanations provided about notable buildings such as the Pere Anguera Library, the Bellissens Campus of the Rovira i Virgili University (URV), the Sant Joan Hospital, the Institute of Horticulture and Gardening, and the railway line.
The complete route can be accessed on Wikiloc, and participants can reserve their place through the website inscripcions.reus.cat.
