Soria to host international short film festival celebrating Colombian culture

The International Short Film Festival of Soria (SOIFF), organised by the Youth Department of Soria City Council, has unveiled its programme for this year’s edition, which will transform the city into a hub for short films, culture, and creativity. The official festival week is scheduled from 13 to 21 November, with Colombia as the guest country.

The festival will kick off on 13 November at the Palacio de la Audiencia with the inauguration of the photographic exhibition ‘Arquitectura Artesanal’, showcasing the work of three Colombian artists: Alin Martínez, Maira Gómez, and Tatiana Ruiz. At 20:30, the opening gala will celebrate Colombian cinema and culture, hosted by actress Alejandra Zuleta, and will pay tribute to filmmakers Jaime Chávarri and Chicho Ibáñez Serrador. Yolanda Benito, the festival coordinator, emphasised that the gala will feature Colombian music and dance performances, encouraging the public to engage in the festival's activities. Two Colombian short films, ‘Viral’ and ‘La ley de las acciones’, will also be screened during the event.

Leading up to the main festival, a series of pre-events will commence on 7 November, blending cinema, training, and cultural offerings. On the first day, the documentary ‘El Patio de la Infanta. Habitar el tiempo’ and the film ‘Decorado’ will be shown. The following day, the ‘Soria Imagina’ section will present Colombian children’s short films.

On 14 November, the Casino will host the presentation of the book “El cuerpo nazi. El cuerpo contenido” alongside a discussion featuring Jaime Chávarri and Álex Ibañez Serrador. The official competition will showcase 66 short films from nine countries, with daily screenings until 14 November. Additionally, the festival will include parallel sections and established proposals, such as a concert by the Municipal Band of Soria.

The festival will conclude on 21 November with a gala dedicated to actor Carles Francino, during which the awards will be presented. Through this diverse programme, the SOIFF reaffirms its commitment to bringing cinema closer to varied audiences and creating spaces for interaction among professionals, creators, and viewers.
