The Releva y Emprende programme, launched by the Government of La Rioja in collaboration with the La Rioja Business Federation (FER) under the EmprendeRioja initiative, is set to ensure the continuity of established business projects while generating new entrepreneurial opportunities from existing operations.
During a press conference, Economy, Innovation, Business and Self-Employment Minister Belinda León, alongside FER President Jorge Loyo, highlighted the programme's role in directly supporting the generational transfer of businesses in both rural and urban areas. León noted that this service is crucial for the survival of viable companies that might otherwise face closure, particularly in the retail sector, which has been significantly impacted by changing consumer habits, such as the rise of large retail groups and online shopping.
The initiative will reactivate a specialised communication service for business transfers, utilising EmprendeRioja's channels to promote visibility for all business opportunities. Additionally, meetings will be held with local business leaders to raise awareness of the initiative and encourage entrepreneurs to seek suitable successors.
EmprendeRioja offers comprehensive and personalised advice to individuals interested in selling or acquiring a business, ensuring thorough analysis and evaluation of each transaction. The programme aims to support both parties throughout the process to guarantee successful outcomes.
“Those interested in selling or transferring their business will receive support from specialised professionals who will assist in business valuation, preparation of necessary documentation, and the search for suitable buyers, maximising the chances of success and ensuring the continuity of the business project,” León stated.
For potential buyers, tailored support will be provided to ensure a secure and well-structured transaction, as well as to develop the necessary skills and competencies to ensure the viability and continuity of the business project, thanks to EmprendeRioja's extensive training offerings.
Loyo emphasised the importance of valuing businesses in rural areas, stating, “A family that comes to a village to run a business is a family with children who will attend school, a family that will visit the doctor, and a family that participates in the life and social fabric of the municipalities. The commitment being made by the Government of La Rioja is a real commitment, and EmprendeRioja values these rural businesses.”
The Government of La Rioja has created a dedicated webpage within the EmprendeRioja site, serving as a notice board where viable businesses available for transfer are being listed. Furthermore, in-person information sessions have been scheduled throughout September in various regional capitals, led by Rubén Merino from RMESTRATEGIA. Sessions have already taken place in Logroño on September 3 and Nájera today, with three more planned in Arnedo on September 15, Haro on September 16, and Calahorra on September 17.
