Black comedy ‘ea!’ explores death and human relationships at Teatro Moderno

The Teatro Moderno in Chiclana will host the performance of the black comedy ‘ea!’ on 23 October at 20:00. The play, featuring the actor Julio Fraga, is directed and written by Ana Cristina Leal, and invites the audience on a profound journey through emotions and the concept of death.

Tickets for the performance are priced at €12 and can be purchased at the theatre box office from 17:00 to 21:00, or online at www.giglon.com. Additionally, individuals under 30 can buy last-minute tickets for €5, available two hours before the show, subject to availability.

The plot of ‘ea!’ begins with a surreal yet tragic premise: Julio Fraga has died. However, the protagonist attends his own funeral, convinced that the deceased is his colleague, Juan Lapalma. As friends and family organise the wake, the character navigates a situation where he is the only one unaware of his own demise. This confusion serves as a vehicle to explore human relationships and the relativity of concepts such as family and friendship.

According to Leal, the piece is described as an “ode to love” that transforms from a dream into a nightmare, examining emotions ranging from sadness and loneliness to resentment and anger. The staging, produced by Espacio Muerto Soluciones Escénicas, features a set designed by David Cabañas, who is also responsible for the sound and lighting. The production will include voiceovers from well-known actors such as Ana Cristina Leal, José Luis García Pérez, Alex O'Dogherty, José Manuel Seda, Guillermo Rayo, José María Peña, and Eduardo Velasco.
