Inauguration of the Gran Aparador de Canillo, the largest mural in Andorra

The Gran Aparador de Canillo, a monumental mural spanning 2,200 square metres, has been unveiled, showcasing the rich history and traditions of the Canillo parish in Andorra. Created by artist Samantha Bosque over six months, the mural involved the use of 300 litres of paint and captures significant moments in the life of the community.

Bosque expressed her pride not only in the finished artwork but also in the collaborative process that engaged local residents. "When you finish, you think you’ve completed the task. But it has been a process shared with those who watched it unfold. The experience of seeing it develop while painting has been invaluable," she remarked.

Titled "Canillo: Moments of life, moments of history", the mural features folkloric figures such as Garibaldi and the Florentina, as well as Mossèn Ramon alongside the Mare de Déu de Meritxell, and the iconic Creu dels Set Braços. The artwork aims to encapsulate the essence of the parish and depict the daily life and traditions of its inhabitants.

Jordi Alcobé, the mayor of Canillo, described the mural as "a grand historical, cultural, and identity showcase, as well as a tourist attraction, allowing visitors to experience the largest piece of art in Andorra."

Also present at the inauguration was the episcopal co-prince, Josep Lluís Serrano Pentinat, who emphasised the mural's significance as a connection between the lives of Canillo's residents and their history, stating that the wall serves as a canvas "not to separate, but to unite."

The mural features a total of 60 elements, with the Creu dels Set Braços symbolising a gift received by the head of state, representing one of the key fragments of the newly inaugurated artwork.
