The essence of Frida Kahlo has taken to the stage in a vibrant performance by Catalan choreographer Enric Gasa. Drawing inspiration from the life and artistic universe of the renowned Mexican artist, Gasa has crafted a tribute that seamlessly merges contemporary dance with live Mexican music.
The Centre de Congressos d’Andorra la Vella was filled on Thursday evening as audiences gathered to experience this unique proposal, which explores various episodes of Kahlo's life through movement, music, and a visually striking set design. The aim is to convey the message championed by the artist: to fall in love with life, regardless of the circumstances.
Enric Gasa, choreographer: "My intention is that people leave with a renewed zest for life, because Frida's life was very tragic and tough. She advocated for 'falling in love with life' and for living and enjoying it. We had a great time trying to convey that no matter what happens in life, we must fight on, and with a little tequila and music, everything can be enjoyed."
With a set design bursting with colour and vitality, the dancers and musicians delivered an emotional homage to the Mexican artist, recreating significant moments from her life.
