Jesé Rodríguez, the forward for UD Las Palmas, has stressed the necessity of unity within the dressing room ahead of their upcoming match in Oviedo. He believes that a victory is crucial to affirm the team's positive response in LaLiga Hypermotion.
This match will mark the debut of Albert Sánchez as head coach, the third manager to take the helm in just three months. Rodríguez expressed his respect for the club's decision to appoint the Catalan coach, who arrived on the island on Thursday, and urged his teammates to give him time to settle in.
Rodríguez noted that the team has shown improvement in their last two matches, both in the league and the Copa del Rey, stating they have become “stronger” and have “improved in intensity and off the ball” under the previous coach, Juan Manuel Rodríguez, who has returned to the youth team following Sánchez's appointment.
He described the training sessions as “very competitive” and mentioned that he was pleasantly surprised by the previous coach's methods, despite the transition to a new manager. “He is the coach the club has chosen, and we will all support him; he is very motivated and excited,” Rodríguez said.
However, he also emphasised that players must “step up” as they are capable of performing better. He observed a “change” in the last two matches, suggesting that some players had become disengaged during a rough patch and now need to contribute as expected.
“If we are not all united, things will go poorly for us; we are all in the same boat,” he reiterated during his press conference, conveying a clear message to his teammates.
Regarding the team's objectives, Rodríguez pointed out that the key target is “50 points, and from there, whatever comes next; I am ambitious but also realistic and aware.” Sánchez will make his debut on Monday at the Carlos Tartiere Stadium, which Rodríguez described as a “First Division scenario and a good moment for players to showcase their personality and demonstrate their qualities.”
