Kursaal to host 'Pla per Roig' on 22 October

The Sala Petita at the Kursaal will host 'Pla per Roig' on Thursday, 22 October at 7 PM. This performance draws from the works of two prominent figures in Catalan literature, Josep Pla and Montserrat Roig. The production reconstructs the historic interview that Roig conducted with Pla in the winter of 1972 for the magazine Destino.

Directed and written by Ferrat Utzet, 'Pla per Roig' presents a light-hearted yet rigorous exploration of these key 20th-century Catalan literary figures. On 7 February 1972, a young Montserrat Roig visited Josep Pla at his home for the interview. Their conversations that day, which took place in Llofriu, at the beach of Pals, and in Palamós, formed the basis of the article 'Josep Pla en su madriguera', published in Destino on 4 March 1972.

The performance humorously recreates this encounter, allowing audiences to appreciate the brilliance of these two unique characters. Roig, portrayed by Laura Roig, was a journalist, writer, and a pioneer of Catalan feminism, while Pla, played by Jordi Coromina, is often regarded as the most widely read and popular Catalan author of all time. Their contrasting perspectives—Roig as a young, feminist progressive and Pla as a misogynistic conservative—highlight the inevitable generational and ideological clashes, yet also demonstrate how such differences can coexist with respect and admiration.

The engaging and accessible show employs a podcast format to move away from a literal representation of these iconic figures. Tickets for the performance are priced at €15, with discounts available: €12 for seniors over 65, €10 for holders of the Carnet Galliner, and €6 for those under 30. Tickets can be purchased at the Kursaal box office or online.
