The third edition of Lo Mandongo, a gastronomic festival in La Massana, will take place on Saturday, 14 November. The event aims to revive the tradition of pig slaughtering, which has been a significant cultural practice in the region.
Tickets for the festival will be available starting Monday, with prices set at €4 for children under 14 and €8 for adults. They can be purchased through the La Massana + app and on the website visitlamassana.ad.
Culture councillor Alexia Verdaguer emphasised the importance of connecting with local traditions, stating, "This popular festival allows us to relive past customs and strengthen our sense of belonging to the parish, while also highlighting our traditional gastronomy."
The celebration coincides with the feast day of La Massana’s patron saints, San Acisclo and Santa Victoria, which is observed on 17 November. Preparations for the pig will begin at 10:00 in the main square, where attendees can learn about the cutting and preparation of various pork products, following the methods of traditional mandongueras.
New this year will be a series of screenings titled “La Massana de antes,” featuring interviews with local elders. These will take place from 12:00 to 13:30 in the old Comú hall. The communal lunch will commence at 13:00, featuring a menu of trinxat (a traditional potato and cabbage dish) and pork.
The festival will also include traditional music from the Pyrenees, performed by Ivan Caro, adding to the cultural atmosphere of the event.
