local government approves over €376,000 for infrastructure and social aid in Lugo

The local government of Lugo has approved a series of projects aimed at improving road infrastructure and providing social aid, with a total budget of €376,328.45.

Among the key initiatives is the partial urbanisation of Virxe da Soidade street, which has a budget of €184,591.05. This project aims to enhance accessibility and pedestrian safety around the As Gándaras school. Planned improvements include the construction of a continuous, accessible pavement adjacent to the school, a pedestrian connection between Calzada das Gándaras and Calle do Peto, as well as a designated platform for urban bus stops and the installation of a new shelter. Additionally, the project will reorganise urban and school transport stops and parking areas, adapt pedestrian crossings, install tactile pavements, protective railings, signage, and urban furniture, and upgrade service networks and drainage systems.

The local government also approved several road improvement projects under the 2026 Cooperation Plan with Municipalities, amounting to €191,737.40. One of these projects involves the refurbishment of the road linking the municipality of Outeiro de Rei with the N-640, near Os Silgueiros, as well as the road connecting Portoganoi, Verín, and Pacios in the parish of San Xoán do Campo.

Furthermore, the government has set the framework for granting aid to non-governmental development organisations (NGOs), with a budget of €49,000 allocated: €40,000 for development cooperation projects abroad and €9,000 for social awareness initiatives within the municipality.

In relation to public transport, the local government partially upheld an appeal by Monbus Urbanos S.A.U. against the forced extension of the municipal urban transport service, maintaining the company's obligation to continue service while recognising the possibility of economic compensation for the associated costs.

On the cultural front, the government delegated responsibilities to expedite the agreement with the ”la Caixa” Foundation to host the travelling exhibition 'Colores del Mundo' on San Fernando street, scheduled from 26 October to 13 December 2026.

Lastly, the local government awarded the contract for high and low voltage electricity supply to Naturgy Clientes Empresas, S.A.U., with an expected annual cost of €9,465,094.21 excluding VAT.
