The Ayuntamiento de Madrid has commenced its annual vaccination campaign for flu and COVID-19, in collaboration with the Comunidad de Madrid. This year's campaign began on 5 October and will run until 31 January, as part of the region's vaccination network.
Deputy Mayor Inma Sanz, who is also the delegate for Security and Emergencies, visited the International Vaccination Centre located on Calle Montesa. She was accompanied by Cayetana Hernández de la Riva, the councillor for the Salamanca district, and officials from Madrid Salud.
Vaccination is regarded as one of the most effective tools for preventing transmissible diseases and their complications. During the first week of the campaign, priority was given to vaccination in the city's day centres for the elderly. Appointments for vaccination at municipal Madrid Salud centres are now available, with morning and afternoon slots.
The campaign primarily aims to protect individuals at higher risk of complications from flu or COVID-19, as well as those who may transmit the virus to vulnerable populations. Vaccinations are offered to individuals over 60 years for flu and over 70 years for COVID-19. Additionally, children aged between 6 months and 7 years, as well as individuals with risk factors, are also eligible for vaccination.
In the previous campaign, a total of 87,377 vaccine doses were administered, marking a 2.4% increase compared to 2024, with 46,637 individuals vaccinated, a rise of 9.6% from the previous year. During the 2025-2026 flu and COVID campaign, 33,813 doses of flu vaccine and 20,792 doses of COVID vaccine were administered.
