The local government of Molina de Segura has been granted permission by the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura (CHS) to rehabilitate the west stand and changing rooms of the Sánchez Cánovas Municipal Stadium. Mayor José Ángel Alfonso expressed his satisfaction with this decision, which enables the local administration to continue necessary work for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the west stand without the need for new construction or complete demolition of the existing structure.
The intervention will focus on preserving the foundation, reinforced concrete pillars, and metal beams, while only renewing the structures that support the seating area. Built in 1975, the Sánchez Cánovas Municipal Stadium is one of the main sports facilities in the municipality and has suffered significant deterioration after more than five decades of use.
The plan submitted to the CHS outlines the necessary interventions to ensure that the west stand complies with current regulations, guaranteeing adequate conditions for structural safety, accessibility, and functionality. Elements supporting the fundamental structure will be demolished and reconstructed to meet new functional requirements.
This project adheres to the regulations of the Public Hydraulic Domain Act, as it does not increase the footprint or built volume and does not change the use of the facility. Additionally, it includes measures to enhance drainage and improve flood safety.
