Orquesta UC3M opens season with concert featuring Concierto de Aranjuez and tribute to Joaquín Rodrigo

The Orquesta UC3M is set to open its new season with a concert on 30 October 2026, directed by Manuel Coves. The event will take place at 20:00 in the auditorium of the Leganés campus of Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M).

This inaugural concert invites audiences to explore Spain through music, featuring the renowned Concierto de Aranjuez with guitarist Alejandro Hurtado as the soloist. The concert also pays tribute to Joaquín Rodrigo, marking the 125th anniversary of his birth.

Admission is free until capacity is reached. The programme includes a selection of works inspired by Spain, such as Boccherini's Ritirata notturna di Madrid in a version by Luciano Berio, and Rimsky-Korsakov's Capricho español, with violinist Alberto Juárez performing.

The concert will be a blend of lyrical melodies, musical memory, and orchestral excellence. It is organised in collaboration with the Joaquín Rodrigo Festival in Madrid and the European Guitar Foundation, and will hold special significance due to the attendance of Rodrigo's family, allowing for a shared homage to the composer and reinforcing connections between the university community and cultural entities.

This new season continues the orchestra's commitment to bringing symphonic music to diverse audiences, following a successful previous year that included popular performances such as the concert/projection of The Kid and a collaboration with the National Ballet of Spain for El amor brujo.

With over thirty years of history, the Orquesta UC3M comprises members of the university community and alumni, blending musical training with artistic activity. Their work not only provides a platform for learning and shared creativity but also promotes university culture both on and off campus.
