The Piélagos Town Council is calling on its youngest residents to depict the traditions of the municipality in order to illustrate the 2027 municipal calendar. The fifth school drawing competition is open to children aged up to 12, who can submit works related to various local customs, including the singing of the Marzas, Carnival festivities, religious celebrations such as the Procession of Light and the Floral Offering to the Virgin of Valencia, as well as traditional sports and games like bowling, marbles, and skipping.
Carmen Bedoya, the Councillor for Culture and Education, noted that the theme of the competition will also encompass traditional dishes from the municipality, traditional trades related to livestock or craftsmanship, popular music and dances, and customs from the 12 villages of Piélagos.
All participants are required to present their works in a horizontal format, A4 size, on paper or cardboard, without any protruding elements to facilitate scanning and reproduction. They may use pencils, paints, crayons, tempera, oil, watercolour, collage, or any manual technique. Each contestant is allowed to submit only one drawing.
Bedoya emphasised that all drawings must have the author's personal details written on the back (name, surname, age, class, phone number, and school) and must be submitted in an envelope without any identification. This envelope should contain another smaller one with the personal details.
Submissions will be accepted at the municipal offices in Liencres and Renedo until 14:00 on 12 November. A jury appointed by the Culture Department will select 12 drawings to illustrate the 2027 municipal calendar, with the top three winners receiving vouchers worth €100, €75, and €50, respectively, to spend in local establishments, along with a gift and a diploma. Other selected works will also receive a gift and a diploma.
The names of the winners will be announced on the municipal website, and the awards will be presented on 3 December at the Town Hall. Non-winning entries can be collected until 30 December at the municipal offices.
