The Ponteareas council has announced a public competition to design the official poster for the Festa do Corpus Christi 2027. The Tourism Department has opened the registration period for this contest, with the winning design set to promote this festival, which is recognised as a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Internacional (International Tourist Interest Festival).
Proposals, which must not utilise artificial intelligence, can be submitted anonymously via email until 22 November 2026. The competition offers a single cash prize of €1,000. The initiative aims to engage the local community in creating the promotional image for next year’s celebration, which is also classified as a Bien de Interés Cultural (Cultural Heritage Asset).
Nava Castro, the mayor of Ponteareas, emphasised the importance of preserving the artisanal essence and community involvement from the early stages of the festival. She stated, “Corpus Christi is our calling card to the world and the highest expression of our people’s talent and passion.” She added that the competition seeks to reward creativity and make the community an active participant in a celebration that identifies and brings pride to the residents of Ponteareas.
Any individual aged 18 or over may participate in the competition, with a maximum of two original and unpublished works allowed per person. The creation technique is free, but the use of artificial intelligence in the design is strictly prohibited. Manuel Gregores Martínez, the Tourism Councillor, explained this decision, highlighting the value of human creativity, stating, “Our flower carpets are a 100% manual art, the result of the effort, delicacy, and craftsmanship of our carpet makers.” He believes it is essential that the image representing the festival is also a direct result of human sensitivity and talent, without the intervention of artificial intelligence.
The theme of the submissions must be closely linked to the Ponteareas festival and its most distinctive feature: the flower carpets. Design elements may revolve around the people, materials, patterns, drawings, or the atmosphere of the festival. Additionally, the posters must include the text “30 de mayo. Corpus Christi Ponteareas 2027,” along with the labels “Fiesta de Interés Turístico Internacional” and “Bien de Interés Cultural,” while reserving a lower band for institutional and sponsor logos.
The deadline for submitting proposals is 22 November 2026 at 23:59. To ensure anonymity, works must be sent exclusively via email to corpus@ponteareas.gal, with the subject line stating “Concurso de carteles Corpus 2027 + [Chosen slogan].” The email should include three separate files: the poster (named after the slogan), a copy of the ID, and a signed authorship declaration included in the annexes of the competition rules.
The jury responsible for selecting the winning piece will be chaired by Manuel Gregores Martínez and will include four professional members from the fields of Fine Arts, graphic design, and carpet making. Evaluation criteria will include the connection to the town, technical quality, visual impact, and originality. The jury's verdict will be announced within ten days following the submission deadline and will be published on the municipal website and the council's social media channels.
