Porriño postpones Samaín activities to 1 November due to national mourning

The town hall of Porriño has announced that the celebrations for Samaín 2026 will be postponed to Sunday, 1 November, due to the national mourning declared in Spain. This decision allows all planned activities to continue, maintaining the festive spirit of the occasion.

A highlight of this year's events will be the transformation of the town hall into an exciting Tunnel of Terror. This approximately 30-metre-long experience will take visitors through the historic spaces of the building, designed by architect Antonio Palacios in the early 20th century, including the grand staircase and the Plenary Hall. The theme for this year's event is 'a terrifying winter', and the Tunnel will open its doors at 18:00 on Sunday, prioritising families during the initial time slot. Numbered tickets will be distributed to manage the queue effectively. Entry is free, but it is recommended that children under eight are accompanied by an adult.

The mayor of Porriño has expressed understanding for the change in date, explaining that rather than cancelling the activities, the decision was made to postpone them in consideration of the excitement among children for this time of year.

Also moving to Sunday is the performance 'Parade Anubis', presented by the renowned international company Pablo Méndez Performances. This show will feature acrobatics, immersive music, and structures inspired by Ancient Egypt as it winds through the urban space.

The street will also host the traditional pumpkin exhibition organised by the Department of Education and the OMIX. This year saw a record participation of 331 original pumpkins crafted by 687 schoolchildren from the municipality, along with contributions from users of Aceesca and Afaga. The exhibition will extend from the Christ Fountain to the San Bieito neighbourhood.

With the rescheduling to Sunday, families will be able to collect their decorated pumpkins starting at 21:00 on the same day. Any uncollected pieces will be removed by the municipal cleaning service on Monday, 2 November, at 08:00 for proper recycling.
