registrations open for the fourth human library in l'hospitalet

The fourth Human Library in L'Hospitalet has opened registrations for individuals interested in listening to personal stories presented in a unique format. This initiative will occur on 28 November at the Josep Janés Library, located in the Collblanc-la Torrassa neighbourhood.

Attendance at the Human Library is free and open to the public, but there is a limit on capacity. Therefore, those wishing to hear the stories, which will be shared in small groups, must register on the Human Library website.

This edition will feature two sessions in the morning: one at 11:00 and another at 12:30. The catalogue includes 23 “titles,” six more than in previous editions held at the Florida, Tecla Sala, and Bòbila libraries.

The new stories explore themes such as end-of-life companionship and grief, living with an amputation, the role of sport in identity formation, fatphobia and biases against non-normative bodies, the stigma associated with HIV, and the migratory experience of leaving Venezuela to start anew. Attendees will also have the opportunity to “read” stories from past editions, including 'Survivor of suicide', 'Homeless', 'Transgender woman', and 'My daughter's anorexia'.

The concept of the Human Library is an international initiative that began in Denmark in 2000, founded by The Human Library Organisation. Today, it operates in over 80 countries, providing a safe space for face-to-face conversations that help dismantle stereotypes, combat discrimination, and promote social cohesion.

The L'Hospitalet edition was launched in 2023 and is part of the Human Library Organisation. It is supported by the City Council, in collaboration with the AFA Joaquim Ruyra, the Les Planes-La Florida Life School, L'Hospitalet Libraries, the City Rights Area, and a broad network of volunteers and local organisations.
