Tour operators from Ireland explore extremadura's culinary and cultural heritage

From 21 to 25 October, tour operators and travel professionals from Ireland are visiting extremadura to explore the region's most representative culinary products, as well as its cultural and natural heritage. This trip has been organised by the General Directorate of Tourism in collaboration with the Turespaña office in Dublin. The aim of this initiative is to strengthen the promotion of extremadura as a tourist destination in Ireland, with a particular focus on the experiences offered by its culinary routes.

The itinerary began in Zafra with a guided tour and a tasting session focused on the Ribera del Guadiana Wine and Cava Route. The following day was dedicated to the Iberian Route, which included a ham safari through the dehesa to discover the habitat of the Iberian pig and the production process of this emblematic product of extremadura's gastronomy.

The group continued their visit in Mérida, where they learned about the city's Roman heritage. On Friday, they travelled to a cheese factory in Sierra de Fuentes to participate in an activity related to the Cheese Route, where they learned about the different cheese varieties in the region and the traditions surrounding this food.

Subsequently, the group headed to Casar de Cáceres, concluding the day with a guided tour of the monumental city of Cáceres. The activities on Saturday and Sunday will focus on exploring some of extremadura's main natural sites, such as the Monfragüe National Park and the Garganta de los Infiernos Natural Reserve in the Valle del Jerte. In these areas, participants will engage in active tourism and birdwatching activities, including a guided visit to the city of Plasencia to discover its heritage.
