The Lleida Provincial Tourism Board has enhanced the cycling appeal of the Lakes Route by installing a 32-metre wooden walkway that crosses the l’Espona ravine, situated between the municipalities of Castell de Mur and Talarn in the Pallars Jussà region.
Juan Antonio Serrano, the board's vice president, stated that the project also includes the adaptation of 135 metres of pathway and bike lane. He noted that this initiative has required an investment of nearly €400,000 and is part of the Naturalmente Lleida project, which is funded by the European Union's Next Generation funds.
Serrano emphasised the strategic importance of cycling tourism, stating it allows visitors to discover the region's landscapes and villages in an environmentally respectful manner while generating economic activity. He added that projects like this walkway help establish the Pyrenees and the Lleida region as a leading destination for nature tourism and cycling.
The Lakes Cycling Route is divided into three segments, spanning 107 kilometres across the Segrià, Noguera, and Pallars Jussà regions. It runs parallel to and complements the train line operated by the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) from Lleida to La Pobla de Segur. Notably, the section between the Sant Llorenç and Cellers-Llimiana stations can be traversed by train.
