Alicante province offers scholarships to eighteen university students

A total of eighteen young people from Alicante province will benefit this year from the Residential Scholarship Programme at the Hogar Provincial Antonio Fernández Valenzuela. The deputy responsible for the centre, Juanjo Berenguer, welcomed the scholarship recipients during a ceremony held this morning.

The scholarships cover accommodation, meals, and up to €550 for enrolment fees. Berenguer described the initiative as one of significant human and educational value, highlighting its role within the social and welfare work carried out by the Diputación de Alicante as part of its plan to promote and reuse the facilities of the Hogar.

The selected students will live in a unique intergenerational environment alongside elderly residents, children from the nursery school, Ukrainian refugee families housed in the complex, and the centre's staff. During the symbolic event, the students received the keys to their rooms and participated in a guided tour of the centre with their families. They will also have free access to the sports facilities at the Hogar Provincial.

This year, the programme has awarded eighteen scholarships to students either currently enrolled or planning to enrol at the University of Alicante or the Miguel Hernández University of Elche. These scholarships are aimed at those who face challenges in accessing higher education due to geographical distance or socio-familial circumstances. The recipients hail from municipalities including Orihuela, Elche, Rafal, Callosa de Segura, Benejúzar, Pilar de la Horadada, Benissa, Santa Pola, Catral, Formentera del Segura, San Isidro, and Daya Nueva.
