The Espai de la Plana de l’Om will host the third and final concert of the cycle dedicated to Johann Sebastian Bach's 'Suites for solo cello' this Sunday, 8 November, at 12 noon. This event is part of the celebrations marking the Year of Pau Casals.
Catalan-Swiss cellist Ariadna Chmelik, a member of the Atenea Quartet and winner of several prestigious competitions including Joventuts Musicals de Suiza (2012, 2014, 2016) and El Primer Palau (2022), will perform Bach's suites No. 2 and 5. This concert follows performances of suites No. 1 and 6 by cellist Amat Santacana, and suites No. 3 and 4, allowing attendees to once again experience the brilliance of J.S. Bach, a leading figure in Baroque music.
In addition to the two Bach suites, Chmelik will also perform 'Set haikus per a violoncel sol' by composer Josep Maria Guix. The six suites for solo cello by J.S. Bach (1685–1750) are fundamental works in the cello repertoire. Since Pau Casals made the first complete recording between 1936 and 1939 during the Spanish Civil War, these pieces have continued to inspire generations of cellists worldwide.
Tickets for Ariadna Chmelik's concert are priced at €15, with discounts available at €10 for seniors over 65 and holders of the Carnet Galliner, and €6 for those under 30. Tickets can be purchased at the box office and online.
