Calahorra prepares activities for international day for the elimination of violence against women

The City Council of Calahorra, alongside the Ministry of Equality, has announced a series of activities to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is observed on 25 November. The programme features cultural, educational, and awareness-raising initiatives that will take place throughout November.

Until 15 November, a new edition of the 25N micro-story competition will be held to encourage reflection and awareness about violence against women through writing. Details of the competition can be found on the municipal website, and submissions should be sent to the email address igualdad@calahorra.es. There are three categories, each with three prizes of €100, €50, and €25 for the first, second, and third place winners, respectively. The first category is open to children aged 6 to 12; the second category is for young people aged 13 to 18; and the final category is for individuals over 18. The micro-stories should focus on themes related to violence against women, its visibility, prevention, or related issues. The maximum length is 250 words, and entries must be submitted in PDF format. The jury will evaluate the relevance of the theme, originality, creativity, and adherence to the competition guidelines.

From 10 to 30 November, the Fundación Caja Rioja centre will host an exhibition of sculptures titled 'DOCE', created by sculptor Emilio San Andrés. This exhibition is organised by the Neighbourhood Network. Additionally, from 16 to 20 November, workshops titled 'Resources to combat violence against women' will be held for individuals over 60 years old, taking place at the Municipal Youth Centre starting at 11:30 AM.

The awards ceremony for the micro-story competition will take place on 21 November at 5:00 PM at the Arcca Cinema, where the winning stories will be read. Following this, at 6:00 PM, the film 'Solo mía' will be screened, with free admission until capacity is reached.

Finally, on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, a commemorative manifesto will be read at 12:00 PM in the porches of the City Hall. Through this programme, Calahorra reaffirms its commitment to raising social awareness, preventing gender-based violence, and promoting collective efforts towards equality and the eradication of all forms of violence.
