The Atlético Marina football club has condemned episodes of violence that, according to its official statement, took place during a match against Fundación Privada Asociación Deportiva Prat on 24 October, resulting in the suspension of the game.
The club reported that the incidents included physical assaults on players and fans of Atlético Marina. In the statement, it was noted that two of its players have medical reports due to injuries sustained, with one requiring surgical intervention.
After reviewing recordings and gathering testimonies, the club stated that footage shows the presence of 30 to 40 individuals in the area near the changing rooms during the incidents. Atlético Marina claims that the assaults continued despite requests for them to cease and warnings that children were present.
The club considers these actions incompatible with the values of sport, asserting that "no sporting rivalry justifies such behaviour or can excuse putting the physical integrity of others at risk."
Atlético Marina has already filed the necessary complaints with the relevant authorities and has identified the individuals allegedly involved. The club has initiated appropriate legal, criminal, and federative actions, providing the gathered information and evidence. It aims to clarify the events and determine the corresponding responsibilities.
In this context, the club has called for an investigation into the incident, urging that those affected be heard and that actions be taken with the seriousness and proportionality deemed necessary.
Before releasing the statement, Atlético Marina attempted to address the situation through dialogue with the president of AE Prat, who also serves as the vice president of the Catalan Football Federation. According to the club, it had not received a response at the time of publication but expressed willingness to continue the dialogue.
Atlético Marina clarified that it does not attribute these behaviours to all players or fans of AE Prat, stating that "it would be unfair to generalise" and thanking those who helped to stop the incidents, as well as the cooperation of the visiting team's delegate and the technical director of AE Prat.
Finally, the club criticised the fight against violence in football for being limited to institutional statements and called for concrete actions. It emphasised that it does not wish to fuel conflict or advance public judgments but insists that the facts must be clarified and the corresponding responsibilities must be addressed.
