The Diputació de Barcelona has showcased the province's tourism offerings at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London, which began on 3 November. This international event features representatives from over 180 countries and attracts more than 46,000 attendees.
Particularly highlighted was the Costa Barcelona brand, which includes the regions of Maresme, Baix Llobregat, Garraf, Vallès Oriental, and Vallès Occidental. One in ten foreign tourists visiting the Barcelona regions comes from the UK, making it the fourth largest source of foreign visitors to the area, following France, the Netherlands, and Germany.
Through the tourism brand 'Barcelona is Much More', the Diputació de Barcelona concluded its participation in the WTM, an essential event for establishing international collaborations and strengthening its position in the British market. In this 47th edition, the Diputació had a dedicated space within the stand of the Catalan Tourism Agency.
The primary objectives were to solidify relationships with existing operators and to introduce the Barcelona regions to new English market tour operators. This summer, at least one in ten foreign tourists who visited the Barcelona regions were from the UK, accounting for 10.7% of visitors from outside Spain, compared to 9.5% the previous year.
This initiative by the Diputació de Barcelona aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 8, 'Decent work and economic growth', and number 11, 'Sustainable cities and communities'. The 17 SDGs were adopted by the UN General Assembly on 25 September 2015 and are part of the global agenda for 2030. The Diputació de Barcelona is committed to these goals and supports local governments in the province in accordance with the SDGs.
