Nerco Infraestructuras has been pre-awarded the contract for the repair and consolidation of the towers of the Casa Consistorial following a municipal contracting meeting held on Wednesday. The company submitted a bid of €403,970, with a projected execution period of eight months.
Two companies participated in the tender process: Nerco Infraestructuras and Estudio Métodos de la Restauración. After evaluating the technical and economic proposals, Nerco Infraestructuras emerged as the preferred choice.
The intervention project, designed by Salmerón and Landmann Arquitectura, will be financed through a loan from Caja Rural Granada, which the local council secured earlier this month, earmarking €7 million for investment in the city.
The two towers are currently protected by safety nets following emergency works carried out in response to rockfalls that occurred in October 2024. The rehabilitation works will primarily involve the reconstruction and stabilisation of the upper and lower cornices of both towers, the rebuilding of elements that fell during the cornice collapse of the eastern tower, and the structural stabilisation of the decorative balustrades and pinnacles that are damaged or missing, with efforts made to recover these elements where feasible.
Additionally, the project will include waterproofing and replacement of the flooring at the balcony level and the upper roof of the towers, as well as the installation of an access staircase for maintenance and inspection purposes, along with the removal of inappropriate elements.
This initiative aims to ensure the stability of deteriorated elements in the towers that pose a risk, while also maintaining and preserving the remaining structures. The Casa Consistorial, a Baroque-style building, is classified as a Bien de Interés Cultural (Cultural Heritage Site).
